Cussonia belongs to the Araliaceae family.  Stems have a corky bark, roots tuberous.

Plants are distributed in southern Africa.These trees can be found in the eastern Cape, Natal, Gauteng and Orange free State provinces of South Africa.  The trees also occur from the Gauteng province northwards into Zimbabwe
